1382% Annual Growth Rate

Unbelievable! Now practically a household word, the new micrblog site Twitter is on course to continue growing at break neck pace with a 1382% increase in unique visitors between February 08 and February 09. The Twitter phenomenon illustrates the power of the internet and high technology. Twitter isn't new technology just an example of a new application - a new "killer app" - for existing technology but the results can be just as powerful as if a new breakthrough technology had been developed. The word "old" takes on new meaning everyday and what's new today is ancient history 3 years from now. What's next?

    When Web 3.0 hits I'm going to start up "Grunter" where you can let everyone know what you're doing through monosyllabic growls and texted sub-phoenetic gutteral utterances.

    I am so confused on this whole 'twitter' thing, i signed up for an account and went on it. Then I just stared at the screen and realized that I had no clue as to what I was doing or supposed to do. Am i missing something?? Maybe ill just stick with facebook.

    I guess this is one of those communication tools you just need to make time for. Although with the 140 character limit you don’t need all that much time. I have a feeling however, that it will be a fad and people will get bored with it after a while…It will just twitter out, so to speak.

    I dont have a myspace or a facebook. I used to but got rid of them. I think twitter is stupid. Do people really need to know where u are 24/7? I dont know, Its pretty popular so I guess I just dont get it..

    i hate twitter with a passion and i wish it would die like myspace is. i mean it basicallyis a blog and with everyone with a phone you can do the samething.

    I'm not a fan of twitter at all, in fact i don't have my space or face book. I'm still not sure why people feel the need to advertise what they are doing 24/7, maybe I'm missing something too.

    I find it interesting, and I know a lot of my friends who are in the web and web-tech industry use it, but I for one could never bring myself to update the whole world as to what exactly I'm doing at that moment. I know some grass-roots companies use it to keep their public up to date with what is going on behind the scenes, which I can appreciate, but I don't wanna know that Johnny just went to the bathroom and that had a nap.

    Twitter is the abomination of Web 2.0, and hopefully will join Tamagotchis and Furbies and other dumb tech fads with a short lifespan. That said...I can't wait until Grunter is available for public beta ;).

    The reason for the hating on Twitter is that it is just another Web 2.0 service that makes us even more egocentric. Maybe people do not want to know everything that is going on throughout your day. Twitter is a perfect tool for attention seekers, which explains why it is popular with celebrities and sports figures.
